Season 6: March 1-15,2026 Utah and Arizona

We spent the first two days of March in our beautiful spot overlooking Lake Mead in Nevada. We took a ride to a natural spring up the road. The weather has been in the 80’s. It’s been amazing. Barbara and I were able to finish another puzzle on a beautiful sunny day.

We left that spot and headed to our favorite place in the world which is Southern Utah. The drive was so beautiful. The mountains and rocks changing color from grays to red. We booked a campsite in Snow Canyon State Park in St George Utah which is just outside Zion National Park. This campground and entire state park is magnificent. So much like Zion. We got a great spot among the Red Rocks and Barbara and Frank are in a different loop. The loop where they are is pretty tight. Campers are right on top of each other. But even their spot is a beauty among the rocks.

We went for a great hike to these Lava Tubes. A hike among the red rocks that lead to two caves formed by Lava. Greg and Frank went down into them. Barbara and I stayed up top.

When we got back from the hike we did the bike trail across from the Campground. A beautifully maintained bike path along the state park roads. It was amazing.

Next day was check out day and was also mine and Greg’s birthday. We don’t have to check out till 2 pm here which is so awesome. We do have a lot to do on our birthday and will get some stuff done while in a big town like St George. First stop was Discount Tire for a tire rotation and Barbara and Frank were across the street for an oil change. Unfortunately for them they had some issues with a leak in the oil line on their truck and are going to have to get it fixed. The part won’t be arriving till the next day so change of plans for all of us. Originally we were all heading to the Zion Cliff Lodge for the night. We cancelled those reservations and stayed in St George. Barbara and Frank headed to a fancy Rv Park and Greg and I into BLM land about 4 minutes from the RV park. Greg and I had Taco Bell for lunch which is the best birthday meal there is. It was so delicious. Then we went to Hobby Lobby where I was able to purchase my new coffee mug. I have been looking for a 12 ounce double lined coffee mug for YEARS!!! I finally found one to replace my very well used one.

So Barbara and Frank wound up booking another day because apparently the part never arrived. Frank took the truck to the Chevy Dealer and they were able to get it fixed the next day. This was good for us cause while his truck was gone, we were able to park in their campsite and benefit from all the goodness this place had to offer. The showers were unbelievable. The clubhouse was beautiful and had lots of cozy furniture, a pool table and other random games. A really beautiful campground in St. George, Utah.

Next day we headed out on a beautiful trip to Lake Powell. Southern Utah is just breathtaking. I made chicken quesadillas for dinner.

The Lake Powell National Recreation Area is wide open space for dispersed camping. We spent the night at the Lone Rock camping area. They had vault toilets on wheels and it was $14 a night to stay.  Worth every penny and next year we will stay a few more days but for now, we just had the one night because Barbara and Frank are heading  south east back to Tennessee and Greg and I are heading north to Moab. Before we part ways we want to check out Monument Valley and Valley of the gods. The weather and the views at Lake Powell have definitely been some of my favorite.

A beautiful drive through Monument Valley. We stopped to take a picture in the exact spot where Forest Gump stopped running in the movie. We continued on to Valley of the gods and picked out a nice spot in view of a rock formation called Seven Sailers.

After Barbara and Frank left we decided to continue on the The Valley of Gods Road and see if we could find a different spot. The views in this road are just unbelievable. We drive maybe 3 or 4 miles and came upon an amazing spot further off the road literally in the middle of nowhere and yet we still had a cell signal.

Can you spot Greg in that last photo? The views here are just so unbelievable that we decided to stay a third night in a totally different spot about 4 miles down the road.

Next day we finished up the Valley of the Gods loop and headed north towards Moab, Utah. We found a nice campground on a river for 15 bucks. A picnic table, water and fire ring and a dumpster for garbage. We set up our outdoor shower and enjoyed the unlimited water. We had some Mexican corn with pork for dinner. We are adjusting to no more “Barbara Dinner Menus and Recipes.” Site #7 was fantastic.

There was thousands of Petroglyphs at this campground all along the rock wall that ran parallel to the river. I have never seen so many in one space as they had here. Greg took lots of photos of the petroglphs. Too many to post but here’s one for your enjoyment.

We decided to head out around noon. We heard about a great Mexican restaurant on the way north to Moab in a town called Monticello. We stopped for some lunch and some expensive diesel. The food was amazing.

From there we headed about an hour towards Moab. We stopped at the Hole in The Wall which is a fun touristy thing to do to stretch out the legs.

We continued on to some state land that has free dispersed camping. It’s about two miles down a dirt road and then wide open camping among the Juniper trees.

The weather here was beautiful. Peaceful and quiet with no wind. We left the next day and just like, the calmness was gone and the wind was blowing!! We have been trapped in the van for two days now. 40 mph gusts and bone chilling temps. Not my cup of tea but I know in a couple of days it will be back into the high 70’s and even 80’s. Our location and the majesty of these red cliffs makes the bad weather and strong winds not so bad.

I have loved Moab from the first moment I laid eyes on it and the love hasn’t faded all these years later. We will probably stay here another week or so and then head to other parts of Utah.
