Season 6- Feb 16-28,2026 Arizona and Nevada

We left the Rock Desert and headed to Yuma where we decided to camp for a couple of days at Mittry Lake. It’s a great BLM free camping spot but it can tend to get a little crowded and this trip in it was definitely crowded. While Frank and Barbara were taking care of water and dumping, Greg and I were driving around Mittry Lake in search of a decent camping spot and we definitely found a beauty right on the water.

We settled in then broke out the bikes and went on a little bike tour of the place. And then at Sunset, we had a nice fire and watched the stars come out.

Onward we went to Oatman, Arizona where the donkeys roam free after some gold miners let them loose many years ago. It’s a fun town with some nice free BLM camping.

We had a nice lunch at the local Saloon. Every inch of wall space was covered with dollar bills.

From there we drove to Las Vegas. Spent a couple of days at the KOA. Basically an expensive parking lot type of campground. $50 bucks a night and not even a picnic table is included. Tiny spots where everyone is on top of each other but the draw to this kind of rv resort is that it’s in the big city closed to the tourist attractions, plus full hookups, pool, showers and laundry. But the spot we stayed in was a joke.

That above picture is the actual camping spot. It’s almost laughable. We had some dinner next door at Sam’s Town Casino and then took an Uber over to see The Wizard of Oz at the Sphere in downtown Vegas and it was AWESOME!!

It really was spectacular!! From there we walked over to the Venetian and walked around a bit. While Barbara and Frank took a Gondola ride, Greg and I ate icecream. It was a win win.

We ubered back to the campground and hit the sack. Next day was a lazy day for everyone. We did laundry then Greg and I went to go see the Movie “I Can Only Imagine 2.” That was the movie that they filmed at the Red Rock Amphitheater last year when we went to The Mercy Me Concert. The movie was great but we definitely were unable to spot ourselves in the audience. That night we went to dinner at the local casino. It was kind of a dive but they had a steak and lobster special which we all oredered.

Next day we packed up and headed to the East side of Vegas which is definitely not as sketchy as the west side. We spent a couple of nights at the Red Rock Canyon Campground. Beautiful campground, so much better that the Parking Lot KoA.

We took a nice hike among the Red Rock Canyon. The weather was great and the scenery was amazing.

Next day we were off to the Lake Mead area. We stayed one night at the Callville Campground overlooking Lake Mead. Barbara and Frank were able to dump their tanks and get water for their camper and then we went on a nice bike ride down to the Marina. It’s amazing how far the water is from the campground. The campground used to be lakeside but not anymore.

We continued on for a beautiful ride through the Lake Mead Area. We found a great hike along the way among these beautiful red rocks. We had some lunch and went on a short hike.

From there we headed to Echo Canyon, Greg and I had camped there in 2022 but when we got there this time there was a barrier up preventing anyone from camping where we had camped. Greg found another spot which was another 30 minutes down the road and this spot was way better so I’m kind of glad the other place was closed down. This place is called Stewart’s Point and it’s a huge area with only about 10 or 15 other campers. It’s very private and the views are absolutely amazing.

We spent some time down at the waterside. Absolutely perfect weather for a beach day, however the water was colder than Raquette Lake water. Somehow Frank managed to take a dip. I don’t know how he did it!

The last day of February. Boy that short month sure went by fast. Our total amount for camping was $232 and for gas was $225. It was a GREAT MONTH!!
