Utah, My Happy Place

Yea!! We arrived in Northern Utah!! We got a campsite at Antelope Island State Park which is an island on the Great Salt Lake. It’s a primitive campground, which means it has no water or electricity. It does have Pit Toilets, which are actually on really good shape as far as smell and cleanliness goes.  Our campsite, #17, sits up top a hill overlooking The Great Salt Lake.

Our campsite

We immediately set up camp,  Greg set up the solar to keep our marine battery charged so that we can use our ceiling fan in the teardrop, especially on hot days like this. It’s 100 degrees here which is perfect weather for swimming!! We headed immediately down to the beach. We had read in advance about the how salty this lake is and how because of that, you float without any effort at all.

The bugs were insane on the shore. Zillions of little black flies. They didn’t bite, but there were so many of them. It was pretty intense. Also, these little sea monkeys were swimming in the water. Zillions of them as well.

We will leave you with these last 2 videos, in the hopes that they will inspire you to come to this lake and float your worries away! It was one of the coolest things I’ve ever done.

  1. We visited the Great Salt Lake in UT when I was a kid. I remember how blazing hot the sand was, the zillions of little black flies, and floating in the water … also some of the most spectacular sunsets I’ve ever seen!

  2. Ahh…. the Michael Clarke Duncan reference… Always looking for a chance to bring him up aren’t you?! That lake looks great! Btu I must agree, the flies do not!
